Cookies Policy

The small files and browser storage la-academia.com uses, what each one does, and how to control them.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website saves in your browser. Websites can also save information in your browser's local storage and session storage, which work in a similar way.

This policy covers all of these on la-academia.com, which is run by La Academia Jiu Jitsu (La Academia de Jiujitsu LLC). We call them "cookies" for short.

How we use them

We use a few cookies to remember your language, to remember small choices you make on the site, and to measure how the site is used.

We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not let advertisers place cookies on our site.

The cookies and storage we use

Every item below is first-party, which means it is saved under la-academia.com and not under another company's domain.

  • NEXT_LOCALE (cookie). Purpose: remembers whether you prefer Spanish or English. Set by: our site, when you switch language. Lifetime: 1 year.
  • ph_[project key]_posthog (cookie, with a copy in local storage). Purpose: holds a random visitor ID and basic session details for analytics. Set by: PostHog analytics, on our behalf. Lifetime: about 1 year.
  • wa-nudge (session storage). Purpose: remembers that you already saw the WhatsApp chat prompt, so it does not pop up again. Set by: our site. Lifetime: until you close the browser tab.

Analytics with PostHog

PostHog (posthog.com) is our analytics provider, using its United States cloud. It records page views, when you leave a page, clicks on buttons such as register, WhatsApp, directions, map and schedule, your site language, your device and browser type, and an approximate location from your IP address.

PostHog also records how visitors move through the site: scrolling, taps and clicks, and where the pointer goes. Anything typed into a form is masked in your browser before it is sent, so recordings never contain what you type. We watch these to find pages that confuse people and fix them.

The visitor ID is random and does not contain your name or email. Anonymous visitors are not stored as person profiles.

Analytics requests go to /ingest on our own domain, which forwards them to PostHog.

Other services that see your visit

Some parts of the site load content from other companies. They do not set cookies through our site, but your browser does send them your IP address.

  • CARTO (carto.com) supplies the map images on the contact page and in the footer.
  • Google Fonts (fonts.google.com) supplies some of the fonts on the site.
  • If you follow a link to GymDesk, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze or Moovit, that service may set its own cookies under its own policy.

How to control cookies

We do not show a cookie banner today. You stay in control through your browser.

  • Browser settings: every major browser lets you see, block and delete cookies and site data, for all sites or for la-academia.com only. Look under Privacy or Site settings.
  • Stop analytics: block or delete cookies and site data for la-academia.com, and PostHog cannot keep your visitor ID. A content blocker that blocks analytics also works.
  • Session storage clears itself when you close the tab.
  • If you block cookies, the site still works. It will just forget your language choice.

Do Not Track

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. The site does not currently respond to that signal. To stop analytics, block cookies for la-academia.com as described above.

Changes and contact

We will update this policy if the cookies we use change, and we will change the date at the top.
