Privacy Policy

This website is run by La Academia Jiu Jitsu (La Academia de Jiujitsu LLC), a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school at 1056 C. Fernández Campos, San Juan, Puerto Rico 00907.

In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean La Academia Jiu Jitsu. "You" means anyone who visits https://la-academia.com.

The website has no accounts, no sign-up forms and takes no payments. We collect very little, and most of it is anonymous.

• Site analytics: the pages you view, when you leave a page, and clicks on things like the register, WhatsApp, directions, map, schedule and banner buttons.
• Technical details: your site language, device type, browser type, and an approximate location (city or country) worked out from your IP address.
• A random visitor ID stored in your browser, so we can tell one visit from a returning visit. It does not contain your name or email.
• Messages you send us: if you email us or write to us on WhatsApp, we receive your message, your name or number, and anything else you choose to share.

When you sign up, buy a membership or day pass, or pay, you do it on GymDesk (https://la-academia.gymdesk.com). Our website only links there.

GymDesk is a separate service with its own privacy policy and terms. Information you give GymDesk, such as your contact details, payment details and signed forms, is handled under those policies and our membership records, not under this website policy.

We use analytics to understand which pages are useful, what people look for, and what breaks. This helps us keep the schedule, prices and directions easy to find. That is our legitimate interest in running a useful website.

Part of that analytics is a recording of how a visit unfolds: which pages were opened, how far they were scrolled and what was tapped. Typed input is masked before it leaves your device. The recordings are anonymous and are used only to improve the site.

We use the messages you send us to answer you. You start the conversation, and we use your details only to reply and to help you with what you asked.

We do not sell your information. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not build profiles of anonymous visitors.

We rely on a few outside services to run the website. Each one sees only what it needs to do its job.

• PostHog (posthog.com): our analytics provider, using its United States cloud. Analytics requests go through our own domain first, then on to PostHog.
• Cloudflare (cloudflare.com): hosts the website and delivers its pages. Like any web host, it processes your IP address and basic request details.
• CARTO (carto.com): supplies the map images on the contact page and in the footer. Your browser asks CARTO for those images, so CARTO sees your IP address.
• Google Fonts (fonts.google.com): supplies some of the fonts on the site. Your browser asks Google for those fonts, so Google sees your IP address.
• Meta (WhatsApp): if you message us on WhatsApp, Meta handles that conversation under its own privacy policy.
• Your email provider and ours: if you email us, the message passes through both email services.
• GymDesk (gymdesk.com): handles signup, memberships and payments under its own policies, as described above.

The site links to Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, Moovit, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and GymDesk. When you follow one of those links, you leave our site, and that service's own privacy policy applies.

Analytics data is kept in PostHog for as long as our PostHog plan retains it, and we do not keep it longer than we need it to understand how the site is used.

The visitor ID in your browser lasts about one year unless you clear it.

We keep emails and WhatsApp messages for as long as we need them to help you, and then for a reasonable time as a record of the conversation. You can ask us to delete them sooner.

You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Email hola@la-academia.com and tell us what you want. We will reply within a reasonable time.

Because analytics data is anonymous, we may need your help to find it, for example the date you visited and the device you used.

You can also stop analytics on your own device by blocking or clearing cookies for la-academia.com. Our Cookies Policy explains how.

We teach kids and teens, but this website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Minors train only with the consent of a parent or guardian, signed at the gym.

If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

The website runs over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). We limit who can see analytics and messages to the people who need them to run the gym.

No website or service is perfectly secure, so please do not send sensitive information, such as medical or payment details, by email or WhatsApp.

We are based in Puerto Rico, and our service providers process data in the United States. If you visit from another country, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from yours.

We may update this policy when the website or the services we use change. We will post the new version on this page and change the date at the top.
